But before we start, the winners have been announced over on The Season Blog. Berkley, Lila’s publisher, gave away 30 copies (THIRTY!!) of A MIDNIGHT DANCE on the release date of the book last Tuesday. Make sure you check to see if you won!
Today, we have another great RH, folks! Please join me in welcoming our special guest—Mr. Day! Mr. Day, can you tell us who you’re married to and what she writes?
Mr. Day: Sylvia Day. She writes historical romance, sci fi, and paranormal romance.
Mr. DiPasqua: Your wife’s fans would like to know the RH (Romance Husband) behind the author better. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Scholar? Athlete? Businessman? Artist?
Mr. Day: Not a scholar. I am always learning new things though. I read everything I can get my hands on. I watch all the educational programs on Discovery etc. Anyone watch Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman? Love that stuff. Athelete? no no no. The only way you’ll get me to run is if there is something with big teeth and claws chasing me. Not a businessman. Artist? Does woodworking count?
Mr. DiPasqua: Morgan should teach high school physics…That show is awesome! Where did you and your wife meet? What convinced you that she was “the one”?
Mr. Day: Sorry folks, it wasn’t some romantic location or chance encounter. We actually worked in the same business back in 1997. What convinced me she was the one? She told me she was of course. And she’s always right. Seriously though, about a month after we started dating I made a trip to Georgia to move my mom out to California and the whole time I was gone I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I realized on that trip that I was totally in love with her. Sappy, I know.
Mr. DiPasqua: Where were you when she got THE CALL from her agent/editor? What was your reaction when she told you she’d sold her first book?
Mr. Day: Uhhh. Can’t remember where I was… Is that bad? I was very happy to hear she sold her first book. Hmmm. A little history here- I didn’t even know she was writing until several months after she started. She would disappear for hours pecking on her computer keyboard. I didn’t want to bother her, so I left it alone for a long while. Then my curiosity got the better of me and I sneaked up behind her and asked what she was up to.
Mr. DiPasqua: Is the hero in your wife’s last book:
Mr. Day: “A” of course. [murmurs of “bullshit” were heard from the gallery]
Mr. DiPasqua: LOL…I didn’t hear anything 🙂 On your first date with your wife, were you most like:
Mr. Day: None of the above. I was not feeling at all well that evening and had a slight fever. But I toughed it out and I think I did well for an infirmary candidate. I spent the rest of that weekend sick in bed. Did Prince Charming ever get sick like that? I think not.
Mr. DiPasqua: Nowadays when you hear the word “ball” do you immediately think:
Mr. Day: I’m leaving this one alone… Ask Sylvia
Mr. DiPasqua: How long have you been a RH? (Romance Husband). What advice would you give new RH’s about what you’ve learned being married to a romance author? What should a new RH do or not do when his wife is under deadline?
Mr. Day: Wow… 13 years now. Advice: Leave her alone, leave her alone, leave her alone! When she needs to vent, you’re it, man. Sorry, dude, just sit back and take it. It’ll all be over in a minute. You’ll find that she will be staying up later and later at night writing. It’s gonna happen, so just relax and let it happen.
Mr. Day: I’m smirking right now. ‘Nuf said
Mr. Day: Sylvia pleads the Fifth Amendment.
Mr. Day: Spending the evening on a beach in Jamaica (clothing optional)… Woops, wrong beach. That really happened. They said they had a nude beach… it just wasn’t that particular beach.
Mr. Day: Syl’s got a new historical coming out at the end of the month:
August 30, 2011

The longer the resistance…
Seven years ago, on the eve of her wedding, proper Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a licentious scene no innocent young miss could imagine. Shocked, yet strangely titillated, she’d held her silence regarding scandalous Alistair Caulfield, and walked down the aisle as expected. But through years of serene, unremarkable marriage, Caulfield’s image remained burned into her imagination, fueling very illicit dreams…
…the sweeter the reward
Alistair ran far from the temptation of the prim debutante with the fire of passion in her eyes–all the way to the West Indies. As a successful merchant, he has little in common with the rakehell youth she knew. But when newly widowed Jessica steps aboard his ship for a transatlantic passage, seven years’ worth of denied pleasures are held in check by nothing more than a few layers of silk–and the certainty that surrender will consume them both…
Tip: You can always find out what she’s up to her on her WEBSITE: and she’s on Twitter and Facebook, too.

Hi, Mr. Day! Morgan Freeman could probably teach any subject and convince you with ease that it was something you’d always wanted to learn! Since you are a serious reader, what are your favorite genres and authors? What is your favorite book from childhood? Were you a comic book collector?

It may be sappy when you realized Sylvia was the one, however it proves that the old saying ‘distance makes the heart grow fonder’ is true.
I am curious, how did Sylvia react when asked her what she was up to?
I recently discovered Sylvia’s books. I actually was browsing the the bookstores and Pride and Pleasure caught my eye.
I too hope it wasn’t a family beach.:) Great answers, Mr. Day! Especially ‘smirking’. Love that.:) Renegade Angels – wow. I’ll be looking for the start of that series in October!
Enjoyed the interview….I’m from Ga. too….Wrens, right below Augusta. Have you lost your drawl?
I love Sylvia’s books and I’m looking forward to her new Angel series…

I love the “She’s always right” comment. So true, Mr. Day, so true! And the one time I stumbled upon a nude beach there were LOTS of elderly people around. It was a bit frightening.

Great interview! 🙂 I love Mrs. Day’s work. Shes a wonderful, talented author. Mr. Day, do you read your wifes books? Do you two celebrate when she gets another book published?

Good morning, Mr. Day and Mr. DiPasqua! Loved your interview, Mr. Day! My DH says I am always right also, but I know that deep down he doesn’t think so. Lol! Sounds like you are a great RH. Loved the fact that you didn’t know she was writing for several months, and had the guts to stand behind her and ask what she was doing. Also loved your answer about balls, smirking, and taking the 5th Amendment. You have a great sense of humor!

What a cool idea! I love this interview. For as much as romance is about men, it’s so cool to see those behind the author. 😉
I freely tell everyone that there’s a bit of my husband in every hero I write.
(And I’m just stopping by for moral support. Don’t enter me in the contest.)
Thanks for the great interview. And just for the record, I think woodworking totally counts.

Hi Mr. Day, I really like that your not-yet wife told you she was the one. A very gutsy move that paid off. It’s good to know your marriage has been going on 13 years strong. Wishing you both many more years and many more books from your wife. Thank you for coming to the ball.

Mr. D and Mr. Day – Great interview and great answers! Mr. Day – Could you please call my husband and explain to him that when I’m reading Sylvia’s new book Seven Years to Sin to have your mind set of “Leave her alone”. He has a bad habit about wanting to talk about the Red Sox when I just get to the really good parts of her books! This is not only distracting but he should realize it means I’ll be turning off the air conditioning in the middle of the night and throwing a heavy quilt over him.… Read more »
LOL I’m sure Prince Charming got sick every once in a while too 🙂 Great interview!!

My husband is also a big fan of the Discovery, Nat Geo, and History Channels. We have not seen Through the Wormhole, but agee with everyone about Morgan Freeman.
What is the most romantic vacation that you and Mrs. Day have ever taken? Will she agree with you or have something else in mind?
I have only read Mrs. Day’s paranormal romance books, but must say that I love the blurb for her new historical – added to the TBR list.
Thanks for a fun post gentlemen!!

Sorry I’m late with this. I just got home from work. Thanks to everyone for your comments.Marybelle, it was an adults only resort beach so no trouble of that sort.Virginia C , I mostly read nature stuff when I was a kid. In high school I discovered My all time favorite author Terry Brooks(I have all his stuff and all of the covers are completely thrashed)Ora, she had that deer caught in the headlights look when I asked her(chuckle) Ivy, I have lived all over the country and I pick up accents like catching a cold. I catch myself speaking… Read more »
You make a lovely couple. Nice location for a wedding/reception. I have one of Sylvia’s books on my TBR shelf, I’ll have to get to it soon. Nice for her that you are a supportive husband. Getting out of the way and/or listening to her vent are sometimes the best sort of help she could ever have.
