Mr. DiPasqua: I can’t believe that it’s Friday again…As they say, time flies when you’re having fun!! A MIDNIGHT DANCE will hit the shelves on Tuesday, and it’s been already getting amazing reviews. (Lila, I’m so proud of you, honey).
Today we have another RH with us! I would like to welcome Mr. Sloane to A MIDNIGHT DANCE Blog Party. Mr. Sloane, can you tell us who you’re married to and what she writes?
Mr. Sloane: I’m married to Stefanie Sloane, the amazing author of the Regency Rogues series, including The Devil in Disguise, The Angel in My Arms, and just released The Sinner Who Seduced Me.
Mr. DiPasqua: Your wife’s fans would like to know the RH (Romance Husband) behind the author better. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Scholar? Athlete? Businessman? Artist?
Mr. Sloane: Yes I am… that is to say I am a gainfully employed experiential designer, who happens to have a BFA in Fine Art and is passionate about sports and athletics. Stefanie and I have surprised both our parents and ourselves by being employed in our fields of study for more than 18 years.
Mr. DiPasqua: Where did you and your wife meet? What convinced you that she was “the one”?
Mr. Sloane: It’s a funny story, actually. We met in college our sophomore year. Stefanie had a crush on a friend of mine but was pretty shy, so I agreed to set them up on a date. Not long after, she had the opportunity to repay me. Her brother was unable to attend an upcoming REM concert, so she offered the ticket to me. REM could have played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and I wouldn’t have noticed. Stefanie sang along, danced, and convinced me to do the same. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her—and haven’t ever since.
Mr. DiPasqua: What a great first date!!… Where were you when she got THE CALL from her agent/editor? What was your reaction when she told you she’d sold her first book?
Mr. Sloane: I was at work when Stefanie received the call from her agent that Ballantine had made an offer. She sent me an instant message—while still on the phone, talking about the details. And she was emailing her mom too, so she was a little pre-occupied. I congratulated her, hit the neighborhood green grocer for champagne and flowers, and toasted her in high style once I got home. It was one of the proudest moments of my life, but not an unexpected one. Stefanie has always done exactly what she’s set out to do, so I knew that it was only a matter of time before she realized her dream of being a published author.
Mr. DiPasqua: Tell us, Mr. Sloane, is the hero in your wife’s last book:
a) Just like you;
b) The opposite of you;
c) You wish it were you;
d) More like Mr. May in the NYC Firefighter calendar.
Mr. Sloane: Other than their occupation, education, upbringing, noble blood, and physical appearances, they are just like me.
Mr. DiPasqua: LOL …On your first date with your wife, were you most like:
a) Prince Charming;
b) Prince (bad boy) Harry;
c) The Artist formally known as Prince;
d) Prince, the family pet.
Mr. Sloane: If you asked Stefanie, she would probably say Prince Harry. I wasn’t exactly what she had in mind—in other words, I was wild and somewhat unpredictable—but clearly irresistible. I can say this because she agreed to go on a second date, though only after I spent a fair bit of time convincing her that technically, the concert was our first date.
Now I’ll tell you what I think: I was Prince Charming—while secretly wishing I was the artist formerly known as Prince—and hoping I would never be Prince, the family pet.
Mr. DiPasqua: LOL! Nowadays when you hear the word “ball” do you immediately think:
a) Baseball
b) Basketball
c) An uncontrollable weeping reaction of fans upon meeting your wife in person?
d) A gathering of lords and ladies.
Mr. Sloane: Right now I am thinking about baseball, next month I will start thinking about football. However, more and more I find myself thinking about dancing with my wife.
Mr. DiPasqua: You’re a romantic guy, Mr. Sloane. How long have you been a RH? (Romance Husband). What advice would you give new RH’s about what you’ve learned being married to a romance author? What should a new RH do or not do when his wife is under deadline?
Mr. Sloane: I have been preparing for it all my life and living it that last four years. My only advice is, don’t give advice. When your wife is on deadline, stay out of her way except to feed her and hydrated her. The most important thing you can do is keep the kids out of sight and out of mind, by any means necessary. Good luck!
Mr. DiPasqua: Okay, you know I have to go there . . . What’s your response when asked, “So where does your wife get the inspiration for her love scenes?” (Usually by a guy smirking.)
Mr. Sloane: Stefanie has used the word “muse” and my name in the same sentence, so I proudly bear the burden around the water cooler where my co-workers tease me mercilessly. I know they’re secretly jealous, but I’m not about to give them any pointers. I never kiss and tell.
Mr. DiPasqua: Which character in your wife’s books would she say most resembles you and/or your personality?
Mr. Sloane: I like to think that the good qualities in all of Stefanie’s heroes have something to do with me. Of course, employing such logic means that I have to claim the bad qualities in her villains as well. Hmmm.
Obviously I need a little perspective to honestly answer this question so I will ask the expert. Ok, according to Stefanie, James Marlowe, the hero in The Sinner Who Seduced Me, is a lot like me. The title seems to fit to, in light of my having stolen her away from my friend. What can I say? You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.
Mr. DiPasqua: Thanks so much for participating in the A MIDNIGHT DANCE Blog Party, Mr. Sloane. One last question: What would you like us to know about your wife’s latest or upcoming release?
Mr. Sloane: The Sinner Who Seduced Me, the third book in Stefanie’s Regency Rogues series, just released this past Tuesday. Romantic Times magazine called it “captivating and clever” and a novel that will “charm and delight.”
Mr. Sloane: GIVEAWAY: I know that once you read The Devil in Disguise, you’ll want more. So today, I’m giving away all three books in the Regency Rogues series. The contest is open to all, WORLDWIDE. I don’t care where you live—you deserve the best. And the best is what my wife writes.

Hello, Mr. Sloane! You are obviously still quite smitten with your wife. She could have offered that concert ticket to someone else…but she chose you! Thus began your own great love story, and isn’t it marvelous how it has all unfolded? What has been the biggest surprise in your relationship? What is the most surprising that you have discovered about yourself as an RH?

Great interview! Welcome, Mr. Sloane! I have no doubt that you provide Stefanie with plenty of inspiration. It’s apparent from your answers that you are definitely Romance Hero material.(We all love the Prince Charming with a bit of “bad boy” twinkle in his eyes but it’s this sentence – However, more and more I find myself thinking about dancing with my wife. – that melted my heart and I’m sure will melt the hearts of many more women who stop by to read your interview.) I’m a football lover who counts down the days until the start of each season.… Read more »
Mr Sloane, you had me at ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ – sigh. Such a romantic first date. No wonder you’re your wife’s muse. And what a gorgeous romantic photo. And what beautiful covers on ‘The Angel’, ‘The Devil’, and ‘The Sinner’. Love them!
Mr Sloane
You are such a romantic Hubby I have your wife’s books on my wish list and am soo looking forward to reading them.
You job sounds very interesting and I too would like to know more about it.

Your advice about deadlines sounds what I have to do when my husband has to bring home paperwork to do. That’s really sweet that she technically asked you out for your first date. Were you Prince Charming on your first date that you asked her out?I am already thinking about football. I’m not a big baseball fan, however know the changing of the seasons with sports.I have read Stefanie’s first two books and enjoyed them a lot. I have been really waiting for Marlowe’s story. With the glimpse of him in The Angel in My Arms, he is someone that… Read more »

Great to hear that you two have such a romantic and supportive relationship. 🙂
Gotta admit, I think we’re all smitten – Stephanie…ya can’t blame us for admiring your lovely hubby with answers like those hehehehe! Ok Mr. Sloane, does Stephanie still rock out an REM tune for you? and did that friend of yours remain one? Have a fantastic weekend! PS…The Rogue series look fantastic!
Sorry for the mispell of your name Stefanie…after I submitted my last comment, I paused with a loud ‘Sh*t’ knowing I spelt your name wrong. No disrespect…thanks to this interview, I’m heading to Amazon to get started on this series! Cheers!
Wow, REM concert – what a fun first date! And for your sake I’m glad to hear that there will be football next month!

Wow, that’s such a great first date. Thanks for the great interview.

What a great interview and beautiful wedding picture. I, too, am curious about your job. Did you have your eye on Stefanie when you set up her date with your friend? Also, how long did you date before marrying, and how did you propose? I always love to hear those things.
Love it. Please continue providing inspiration so the rest of us have great books to read. And remember – anything rotten you do will show up in a villain and we’ll ALL know its really you. I must seriously look into writing novels, what a great way to torture those around me.
Hi Mr. Sloane,
Thanks for an interesting interview. I’ve only just become aware of your wife and her new series. I would LOVE to win copies of the first three to get me started. Please enter my name in the giveaway!
Thanks,

Oh, and you could sign the books too, besides her…LOL!
Aww. I loved the interview! Beautiful picture of you and your wife! Does Stefanie share your love of sports? Thanks for sharing!

I loved this interview! What an interesting perspective and twist, the man behind the throne, so to speak.
What fun!

Lovely wedding picture and great interview. Was being a writer something Stefanie has always wanted to do? What’s the most romantic vacation you and Stefanie have taken?
I’m really looking forward to reading the Regency Rogue books!
Thanks for your generosity.

Once again, if you’re not an early bird, a lot of good questions have been posed. I too am curious about what Experiential Designer is. I think there is a resemblance between your wedding picture and the cover of ‘The Sinner Who Seduced Me’ (except the clothing)- what do you think? I always like th cover art to be accurate to the description of the characters.

Hello Virginia C, thanks for your comment. For the past 19 years I have awoken every morning thankful Stefanie chose me. The biggest surprise in our realationship is how consistent and deep our love for each other remains especially considering how much we have both evolved since that night. No matter how complicated our lives become, our relationship reamains uncomplicated and true. As for what is most surprising about myself as a RH… It never ceases to amaze me just how much satisfaction I can get from watching Stefanie do exactly what she loves to do. I will always be… Read more »
I love the interview, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I LOVE the wedding photo! It was great to hear from an RH. I hope my dh becomes one soon!
Just found this blog through Julia Quinn’s facebook- such a fun blog!!!
Oh I forgot to say I am a twitter follower now, too!
My favourite parts of the RH’s interview is always the first meeting story. I think the fact that Stefanie choose to give you REM concert ticket instead of someone else says a lot about the first impression you made on her. Is there any other concerts you and Stefanie have gone to?

Great interview and I think it’s okay you stole her from your friend, especially since you both sound like a great match!

Hello PJ, thanks for you very kind words. I got to say I love the number of football fans that seem to be fans. This may help me stay out of the dog house on Saturdays and Sundays. I am a PAC 12 fan on Saturdays and I root for my beloved Beavers. On Sundays you will find me rooting for my assortment of Fantasy players. I have found that I am the perfect Fantasy football fan, I am not a big NFL fan and do not have any one team that I root for. As for your question about… Read more »
Lol …Great interview! I love the Sloane’s Wedding Photo..it really looks like it could almost be a romance novel cover shot. I’m curious if Mr. and Mrs. Sloane are still friends with Mr. Sloane’s college friend (the one he stole Mrs. Sloan from…lol).
Thanks for the giveaway!

This was a brilliant idea for the RH’s to blog!! I enjoyed Mr. Sloane’s responses!! So funny!! I can’t wait to see who the next guest is!! LOL!! And Mr.Sloane, you wouldn’t really have to give all your secrets away!! Just give us a little tease!!! ROFL!!! Thank you Lila and Mr. DiPasqua for throwing humor into the mix!! I have to get all my girlfriends to check this blog out!! Made my day!!!
Hello Melsch, Stefanie and I both thank you for your comments. I am honestly blushing from all the kind words on the blog.
Stefanie and I have not missed an REM tour stop in our area in almost 20 years. I have to admit though that unfortunately I had to miss a concert a few years ago due to illness. Stefanie was still was able to attend only her date this time was her brother. He might think we are even, but we all know I owe him so much more…
Thanks again Mike.
Hello Cathy P,
Thanks for you post.
I did have my eyes on Stefanie, you couldn’t help but… Truth is all my friends did as well, they were just were not as charming as me.
We dated for 2 years before I proposed on the banks of the Willamette River in Portland. I had just picked her up from the train station and with the city lights behind me and the love of my life in front of me I made the best decision of my life. Happily she agreed and the next fall we were married.
Hello Johanna Jochum,
I can’t really say he is my buddy any more… nor can I blame him. I will say he has never been on our Christmas card list.
Interesting interview. It sounds like you guys a great couple. It seems like you know quite a bit about your wife’s stories and I was just curious if you have read any other author’s romances?
Hello Shadow Kohler,
Stefanie shares my love of sports, but only because it is my love I think… She definitely prefers competing in a sport to watching a sport.
Wow great interview and I am loven these answers. It has really been nice getting to know the RH. I know I have ask this question a lot but do you read your wife’s books? So many men would be caught dead reading a romance noval so I have to know.

Hello Karen, Stefanie as long as I have known her she has always wanted to be a writer- If not a writer a reader. She loves all forms of literature, more than anyone else I know. I think the most romantic vacation we ever took was about 12 years ago, just before our first daughter was born. I am sure that was just a coincidence… We traveled to Spain and spent most of our time in Madrid and Deja on the island of Majorca. It was the most wonderful three weeks. We took our time, adjusted our itinerary if we… Read more »
Hi Virginia,
I happily read all of Stefanie’s books… on my Kindle. I am often reminded by Stefanie that I am not her target audience. While that may mean that I am not here most valuable fan, it will never change the fact that I will always remain her biggest fan. That I will tell to anyone, anywhere.
Great interview. I love your wedding photo. Very romantic. I think its wonderful that you are such a supportive RH. Stefanie’s books sound amazing. I I love the covers. Thank you for the awesome giveaway.

Hi everyone, Stefanie here. First, thank you to the lovely Lila and her husband for hosting such a fun event! Second, wow, you all have been so welcoming and kind to Mr. Sloane–seriously warms my heart.:) Isn’t he great? And yes, he really is this romantic in real life–in fact, someone should ask him about the poetry he’s written for me. Ok, might get in trouble for that little reveal.;) I’m so glad that you all love the book covers as much as I do. While in NYC for a conference I had the opportunity to meet the woman who… Read more »
Karen,
I have to second Mr. Sloane’s preference for our Spain trip. It was absolutely amazing. For many reasons, though one of the funnest–and funniest, actually–was watching Mr. Sloane bend himself into a pretzel in order to drive our rented smart car. Seriously, if I could post a picture here, I totally would!
Lalibrarybug, I love the idea of Mr. Sloane signing by my side! In fact, I’m going to have him sign the three books up for grabs today. Thanks for the suggestion!
What a great interview.
Stefanie’s covers are just GORGEOUS!
Q for Mr. Sloane: If you had to choose which of the cover models you most resemble on your wife’s books, who would it be?

Loved the post. My DOH has learned to appreciate historical romance over the years. After 20 years of marriage, he’ll actually suggest watching a Jane Austen flick (we own them all and several versions of some of them). So my question is: How many times have you watched a Jane Austen flick and can you name them all (i.e., how many books did she write)? If I’m allowed another question, which one is your favorite?

Great interview love to hear from the other half of the our favorite authors
Kati, I would have to say Mr. Marlowe on The Sinner Who Seduced Me. Of course a little time has passes since I did that pose.
