Step with me into Rome, Italy!

Dearest Readers,

It’s been so much fun sharing my pics of my vacation to Italy with you!  🙂

Step into Rome!

 Ancient Rome (beside the Colosseum)
The Colosseum
The lines to buy a ticket was over ONE HOUR long. In the heat.  But it is worth it.  Completed in 80 AD, this place is as popular today as it was in ancient times!
Look at this wonder of wonders!
Inside the Colosseum

Above is the underground (beneath the stage) where the gladiators and animals were kept for the fights.

Below–the VIP section of the Colosseum. The Senators’ names are still carved into the stone to indicate their seats.

 The Famous Trevi Fountain (Below)

Italians say:
Toss 1 coin in the fountain: if  you want to return;
Toss 2 coins in the fountain: if you want to find true love;
Toss 3 coins in the fountain: if you want to get rid of your love.
I wonder if men hang around looking for women who toss in 2 coins. 😉  Or maybe three?  Ha.

Below is another of the many fountains found in Rome.

Speaking of fountains in Rome, the water in the fountains isn’t recycled water.  It’s fresh clean water you can drink!  Many people refill water bottles and drink from the water fountains.  Given the number of fountains in the city, clearly, they’re not too concerned about water conservation.

National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II (also known as the “Wedding Cake”).

The monument holds the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Vatican Museum
Technically the Vatican is an independent state and though found in Rome, it isn’t part of it.
Below are a few treasures from this incredible museum.  You need several days to take in all the wonders within its walls.
First, the ceilings in the Museum.
They were nothing short of breathtaking. No photo can do them justice.

Some of the art in the Vatican Museum.

Before books!  This was what you wrote on. (Below)

Representative of Cleopatra. (Below)

Statue of Fertility.  (Below)
That’s bull’s testicles all over her.  🙂

That’s it for now!  I’ll be showing the final photos (from my trip out to Pompeii) next week.  Stay tuned for the details. 🙂

Next Tuesday Mr. D will be back with another Romance Husband interview—WITH GIVEAWAY!  You don’t want to miss out on the fun! Mark your calendars for Tuesday November 1st!

These pictures are absolutely gorgeous; there are no words to aptly describe this type of beauty. Thank you so much for sharing them with all of us.

I don’t pay much attention to where movies are made, but I have enjoyed the movies mentioned.

Please do not include me in the drawing as I was just blessed with winning a glass heart necklace. Thank you again.

My favorite movies filmed outside of the U.S. are the Bourne films and the Bond films. I am a HUGE fan of suspense or action films. I also love The African Queen with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Another which was a mini-series rather than a “movie” was All The Rivers Run based on Nancy Cato’s book.

Oh my the pictures are so beautiful! My best friend and I have been planning a trip to Italy since we were in High School. We were supposed to go this year our 30th but she found out she would be giving birth to her second child right around trip time so we have rescheduled it for our 35th year. LOL. My favorite movie set in Italy is Under the Tuscan Sun.

I don’t think I’ve really seen many movies set in Italy. Outside the US in general though there are heaps of good British ones, and I love Amelie (which is French and thus set in France). Thanks for the contest, those necklaces look amazing!

Hi Lila!! *waving* Oh, you’re making me want to go through my Rome honeymoon photos. I miss it so much (though I preferred Venice to Rome). One of these days, I’ll get to go back.

Only You is a GREAT movie! I love RDJ in just about anything, though. 🙂 I have to say, my favorite Rome-filmed movie is Roman Holiday. Gregory Peck…mmmmmmmmm.

Sorry. *wiping off drool*

Can’t wait to see your Pompeii pics!

There’s a movie with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline called French Kiss which was filmed (partly) in Paris I think. It’s a cute one. Now, I’m gonna have to go find it so I can watch it again!

Favorite film would be ROMAN HOLIDAY with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck.

Your pictures are wonderful. I have my passport, now all I need to do is figure a way to pay for a trip to Italy. The Vatican Museum is incredible. I don’t think 2 weeks would be enough to even begin to take in all Rome and The Vatican have to offer. I have been interested in Pompeii since high school (which was long before you were born). I look forward to seeing your pictures.
