Thanks so much for having me over on your blog for the party, Lila! I had a great time reading AWAKENED BY A KISS, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of THE PRINCESS IN HIS BED!
My next romance,TEN WAYS TO BE ADORED WHEN LANDING A LORD is out this month (Tomorrow! Eep!) as well . . . and I’ve got lists on the brain. Thanks to your sexy novellas, those lists are now fairy-tale themed. For kicks, I thought I’d share a fairy-tale inspired list with your readers in honor of the release of THE PRINCESS IN HIS BED!
Ten Things I Learned About Life from Fairy Tales by Sarah MacLean
1. Hair care is extremely important. Don’t forget to deep condition. You never know when you might need a ladder in a pinch, and you wouldn’t want those split ends breaking while Prince Charming is climbing your tresses.
2. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Unless you’ve accepted it from a warty old crone. In which case, you’re going to need that doctor. And if he’s a handsome prince, that just might be a two-for-one.
3. Never underestimate the power of a great pair of shoes. People say men don’t care about women’s footwear. Cinderella *obviously* proves that theory wrong.
4. Crumbs do not a good trail-through-the-woods make.
5. Don’t be last-to-leave at a party. No matter how good of a time you’re having, or how hot the guy you’re dancing with is, leave that party before it winds down. But don’t forget to leave something behind for him. Like your shoe. Or, if you’re less eccentric, your number.
6. Boys make the best roommates. One might think that living with seven men might not be a great idea. False. They’re fun and funny and they’re always willing to give you good dating advice. Just ask Snow White.
7. Moisturize before bed. You never know when you might fall into a hundred-year long sleep and have to be awakened with a kiss. Nobody likes a girl with cracked lips.
8. Everyone needs a fairy godmother. Friend or editor, coworker or the lady who runs the dry cleaners, do not discount the women in your life. They can take a simple girl and turn her into a princess long before she meets her prince.
9. Always guess Rumpelstiltskin.
10. Nice girls always get their prince. Sometimes it takes a while. You have to grow out that hair ladder, or take a nap, or get hacked out of a wolf’s stomach. But in the end, he’s waiting for you. And it’s always worth the trip.

I love this post! Very clever. I’ve got a funny answer.
One thing I’ve learned from fairy tales – once a wolf (dog), always a wolf (dog). LOL! I think Little Red Riding Hood would agree with me.
Hi, Sarah! Never get on the really, really bad side of someone who can turn you into a wart-covered toad! Be yourself. Trying to be someone other than your true self is not the way to win the Prince’s heart. Learn to go with the flow. Be able to think fast on your feet: One minute you could be sitting at your kitchen table…the next minute you could be dining at the royal table! Worst case scenario: You are the main course–don’t fall for that old sheep’s clothing trick! Learn from your mistakes. After all, you were warned about trying… Read more »
I <3 Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake so can’t wait for this one!
My lesson learned – Never judge a book by it’s cover 😉
I’m a new blog follower!
Great contest!
My lesson is this: Never underestimate the power of song. You never know when you’ll have to gather crowds of birds and mice to make a dress for you. A singing lesson would come in handy here or there…this may explain why I’m still waiting for my prince :-p
Hi Sarah! I’m chomping at the bit for Ten Ways to be Adored!
What I learned from fairy tales…
Don’t discount the guys who don’t look like Gerard Butler. Even a Beast or a Frog can have a heart of gold. *And* they may be more likely to treasure yours.
Never eat and apple given to you by an old lady!
One thing I learned from fairy tales is that it’s ok to want a handsome prince of your very own. =)

What I learned is that really big sheep is really a wolf!!!!

Hi Sarah,
I think the one thing I’ve learned from fairy tales is that anyone can be a princess it’s not always about the looks, gowns, castle, prince or the crown it’s about what’s inside you as a person.
Never have 13 people for dinner.
LOVED 9 Rules to Break…can’t wait for Sarah’s new book!
Lesson from Cinderella: Be at home, rested and asleep preferably by midnight in order to maintain your beauty.
Always be yourself and tell the truth. No one likes someone who lies constantly.
I can’t wait to read your new book Sarah. I have been waiting for it for months now. Loved the first one.
I learned that you can make great friends anywhere you go.
Thanks for the giveaway.
I have learned to look beneath the surface to find the beauty within the beast!

Growing up, I thought that to be pretty meant having all sorts of horrible things happen to you. None of the fairy tale heroines would have been singled out for abuse if they weren’t beautiful (probably just neglected instead). Also, the pretty heroine may get the prince, but it’s not like she has any other choice (prince or life of drudgery). Better to just be myself.
Loved “Nine Rules…” and seriously looking forward to “Ten Ways…”!

Not to speak to strangers (Little Red Riding Hood; she didn’t know that big bad wolf!)

I learned with a little bit of fabric, ribbons and lace. Some help from some mice and birds I can get one heck of a party dress! LOL! Thanks for sharing today!
Facebook and blog follower!
What I learned: There will always be a Prince Charming out there for you, if you look hard enough 🙂

From fairy tales I have learned that anything could happen, so keep an open mind.

From the modern fairy tales, I’ve learned, that chicks can be the heroes too and do not need to wait for a man to be saved.
Hi everyone! Isn’t this a fun post? Love reading your comments! You know my soft spot when it comes to fairy tales. Just handed in my Cinderella story, A MIDNIGHT DANCE! And I’m a week away from the release of THE PRINCESS IN HIS BED–more scandalous retellings of fairy tales. Yum!! 😉
Thanks, Sarah for being here!
Hugs all!
Great list. My addition: A kiss is a lovely way to waken 🙂
What a great post! Love the ideas you came up with. The thing I’ve learned from fairy tales is there’s always a silver lining, which is why I like to read romance and the Happily Ever After.
Hi Sarah!
I love the title… TEN WAYS TO BE ADORED WHEN LANDING A LORD:) Couple of things I’ve learned from fairy tales is to never go out in the woods wearing a red hood or never go into a house made out of sweets.
Great post Sarah, I loved it.
I’m a little late getting here but had keyboard problems.
Anywho, I learned Wished do come true. And that we all have a Prince Charming somewhere out there. And that my last 2 husbands were really wolves in sheep’s clothing. lol lol

Congratulations on the new book Sarah! That was a fun post. I have learned that love is stronger than magic (well, in most of them anyway).
That my prince charming will come and sweep me off my feet 🙂 Yes, I found my prince charming, but when the story ends at Happily ever after they don’t tell you all the struggles of adult hood and raising kids 🙂

I think most fairy tales have that HEA that we all crave in our books!
They got us hooked at an early age lol.
